IS 318 HTB2 Naval Brass Casting – Grade 2
IS 318 HTB2 (High Tensile Brass Grade 2) is the Indian standard Naval Brass casting grade, directly equivalent to C46400 (USA) and CC768S (EN 1982). The 0.5–1.0% tin addition inhibits dezincification in seawater and water service, providing 380 MPa tensile strength with good corrosion resistance for marine deck hardware, sea cocks, through-hull fittings, and marine plumbing castings produced at Indian foundries for domestic and export markets.
Alloy Overview
IS 318 HTB2 specifies Cu 59–62%, Zn balance (~38%), Sn 0.5–1.0%, Pb max 0.20%. The tin-inhibited dezincification resistance, combined with tensile strength of 380 MPa and machinability of 40–50% CDA, makes HTB2 the preferred Indian standard grade for marine structural and plumbing castings. IS 318 HTB2 corresponds to the international C46400/CC768S naval brass in all key properties.
