C85200 Yellow Brass Casting
C85200 (UNS C85200, CDA 852) is a leaded yellow brass casting alloy with higher copper content than standard C85700, containing approximately 72% copper, 25% zinc, 2% lead, and 1% tin. The higher copper content compared to C85700 gives C85200 slightly better corrosion resistance and pressure tightness, while retaining excellent machinability and the familiar golden-yellow appearance. C85200 is used for plumbing hardware, electrical component castings, general engineering fittings, and commercial hardware requiring a balance of corrosion resistance, machinability, and cost.
Alloy Overview
C85200 (70–74% Cu) occupies the range between LG2/red brass and standard yellow brass. Its moderate zinc content (24–27%) keeps it in the alpha-brass range for better corrosion performance than C85700, while its lead content (1.5–3.0%) ensures high machinability. Tin addition (0.5–1.5%) improves pressure tightness. Suitable for PN16 applications and standard indoor/semi-exposed environments.

C85200 castings are specified for: electrical terminal block and connector housings, plumbing valves and compression fittings for municipal water (non-potable), commercial hardware castings (door hardware, window furniture, builder’s hardware), industrial valve bodies for water and mild chemical service, and OEM electrical hardware requiring higher copper content than standard yellow brass.
