NAB Bronze Casting

NAB Bronze Casting – C95800 | Nickel Aluminum Bronze | BS 1400 NAB | CuAl10Ni5Fe4 | CC334G

NAB – Nickel Aluminum Bronze (C95800, UNS C95800, BS 1400 NAB, DIN 1714 CuAl10Ni5Fe4, EN 1982 CC334G, IS 318 Gr.4, ISO 428 CuAl10Ni5Fe4) is the premium marine-grade aluminum bronze casting alloy. The addition of nickel (4.5–5.5%) to the Cu-Al-Fe system produces kappa-phase precipitates that significantly enhance resistance to cavitation erosion, de-aluminification, and stress corrosion cracking in seawater service. NAB is the alloy mandated by Lloyd’s Register, Bureau Veritas, DNV-GL, and major naval classification societies for propellers, sea water pump bodies, and subsea structural castings. Electrical Accessories India manufactures NAB / C95800 castings for the Indian Navy, private shipyards, offshore platform contractors, and desalination plant operators, with full 3.1 mill certification and third-party inspection by SGS, BV, or TÜV on request.

Product Overview

Why Nickel Makes NAB Superior in Seawater

The nickel addition (4.5–5.5%) in C95800 NAB serves multiple metallurgical purposes. Nickel stabilises the beta phase at elevated temperatures, preventing the decomposition to the weaker gamma-2 phase that causes de-aluminification in nickel-free grades. Nickel also promotes the formation of fine kappa-phase (Fe-Ni-Al intermetallic) precipitates distributed throughout the matrix, which act as hard particles resisting cavitation erosion and abrasion. The resulting microstructure is highly resistant to preferential corrosion, pitting, crevice attack, and stress corrosion in the aerated seawater environments encountered in ship propulsion, tidal barrages, and offshore platforms. The manganese content (0.8–1.5%) further improves castability and oxidation resistance of the melt.

Applications

NAB / C95800 is specified wherever seawater resistance, cavitation resistance, and biofouling resistance are simultaneously required. Primary applications include marine propellers (mono-block and built-up), propeller hubs and boss caps, controllable pitch propeller (CPP) blades and hubs, sea water pump bodies and impellers, sea chest valves, and gate valve bodies for offshore platforms. In desalination, C95800 NAB is used for brine pump casings, valve bodies, and heat exchanger end plates in multi-stage flash (MSF) and reverse osmosis (RO) plants. Defence applications include gun barrel bushings, torpedo tube components, sonar dome structural castings, and anchor windlass components. Electrical applications include subsea connector housings, ROV connector bodies, and cable end fittings for submarine power cables.
