CC762S DZR Brass Casting – Dezincification Resistant
CC762S DZR Brass Casting – Dezincification Resistant
CC762S (EN 1982 / CuZn35Pb2As-C, Dezincification Resistant Brass) is a specially inhibited yellow brass casting alloy where arsenic (0.02–0.10%) is added to completely suppress dezincification in both potable and non-potable water service, stagnant water, and hot water systems. CC762S is the mandatory grade for plumbing and water fitting castings in many European markets (UK Water Supply Regulations, DVGW Germany, CSTB France) and wherever long-term pressure tightness in water service must be guaranteed by dezincification-resistant alloy specification.
Alloy Overview
Standard yellow brass (Cu ~61%, Zn ~37%) suffers dezincification in stagnant or slow-moving water, progressively weakening the casting until it becomes porous and fails at below-rated pressure. The arsenic addition in CC762S (0.02–0.10%) is a proven long-term dezincification inhibitor: As segregates to the zinc-rich beta phase grain boundaries and inhibits the electrochemical dissolution of zinc that drives dezincification. ISO 6509 dezincification test (50°C, 24h, 1% CuCl₂ solution) measures the dezincification depth – CC762S achieves plug depths of 50–100 µm, well within the maximum 200 µm threshold for DZR approval.

Applications
CC762S DZR brass castings are mandatory or preferred for: WRAS-approved potable water fittings in the UK; DVGW-approved water fittings in Germany; plumbing valves, ball valves, gate valves, pressure reducers, and water meters in all markets; hot water systems (60–90°C service); irrigation and agricultural water fittings; hospital water supply systems; industrial process water fittings in stagnant or slow-flow service; and any water fitting where dezincification failure would pose a safety or service risk.
