AB1 Bronze Casting
AB1 Bronze Casting – C95200 | UNS C95200 | BS 1400 AB1 | CuAl9 | CC330G
AB1 Aluminum Bronze (also designated C95200, UNS C95200, BS 1400 AB1, DIN 1714 CuAl9, EN 1982 CC330G, IS 318 Gr.1, ISO 428 CuAl9, JIS H5111 AlBC1) is a binary copper-aluminium-iron casting alloy containing 8.5–9.5% aluminium and 2.5–4.0% iron. It is the most widely used general-purpose aluminum bronze casting grade, offering a balanced combination of tensile strength, corrosion resistance, and machinability. Electrical Accessories India manufactures AB1 bronze castings in sand, investment, centrifugal, and permanent mould processes for electrical, marine, and industrial applications worldwide.
Product Overview
Alloy Composition and Metallurgy
AB1 (C95200) is an alpha-beta aluminum bronze where the aluminium content (8.5–9.5%) places the alloy in the two-phase alpha-beta microstructural region at room temperature. The iron addition (2.5–4.0%) acts as a grain refiner, producing a finer and more uniform microstructure than binary Cu-Al alloys, which improves both yield strength and fatigue resistance. The absence of nickel keeps material cost lower than AB2C and NAB grades while still providing excellent seawater corrosion resistance through the self-healing aluminium oxide passive film. AB1 exhibits good fluidity in the molten state, excellent fillability in complex moulds, and minimal hot tearing tendency, making it one of the most castable aluminum bronze grades.

Applications
AB1 (C95200) bronze castings are used extensively across industries requiring moderate-to-good corrosion resistance combined with acceptable mechanical strength. In the electrical and power sector, AB1 is used for transformer terminal castings, busbar connector blocks, earthing hardware bodies, and cable gland housings in Zone 2 hazardous area applications. In marine and coastal installations, AB1 pump casings, pipe flanges, valve bodies, and seacock fittings offer reliable performance in brackish and tidal water environments. General engineering applications include worm wheel blanks, bearing housings, gear castings, and actuator bodies where the alloy’s moderate cost advantage over nickel-bearing grades is commercially attractive.
Casting Methods Available
Electrical Accessories India produces AB1 / C95200 castings by sand casting (0.5–500 kg), investment casting (20 g–20 kg, tolerance ±0.1 mm), centrifugal casting (bushings and sleeves up to 600 mm OD), and permanent mould casting for high-volume runs. All castings are fettled, shot-blasted, and supplied with chemical analysis and mechanical test certificates per ASTM B148 or equivalent international standard.
