C85400 Yellow Brass Casting

C85400 Yellow Brass Casting

C85400 (UNS C85400, CDA 854) is a leaded yellow brass casting alloy containing 65–70% copper, 28–32% zinc, and 1.3–2.5% lead. It is widely used as a cost-effective casting brass for decorative hardware, architectural fittings, plumbing trim, electrical component housings, and general commercial castings where the slightly lower copper content compared to C85200 provides economic advantage without significantly compromising appearance or indoor corrosion performance. C85400 offers excellent machinability, good castability, and attractive golden-yellow colour.

Alloy Overview

C85400 with 65–70% copper remains largely alpha-phase with some beta, giving good castability and adequate corrosion resistance for indoor and protected outdoor environments. The 1.3–2.5% lead provides machinability of approximately 85% on the CDA scale. C85400 is the preferred choice for high-volume decorative hardware and architectural fittings where cost is a primary driver and severe corrosion resistance is not required.
