C85700 (UNS C85700, CDA 857, equivalent to EN 1982 CC750S / CuZn33Pb2-C, IS 318 LTB3) is the primary commercial yellow brass casting alloy, combining good castability, high machinability, attractive golden-yellow appearance, and moderate corrosion resistance for decorative hardware, architectural fittings, door hardware, plumbing trim, lamp fittings, and general engineering components. Alloy Overview – C85700 Yellow Brass
C85700 is a copper-zinc-lead casting alloy with nominally 60–63% copper, 34–37% zinc, and 1.0–2.5% lead. The high zinc content (34–37%) places this alloy in the alpha-beta two-phase region, giving it excellent castability – good fluidity for filling complex moulds, a wide freezing range that aids progressive solidification, and a pouring temperature of 950–1050°C. The lead addition (1.0–2.5%) provides free-machining characteristics, enabling high-speed CNC turning and milling of cast components without chip-clogging. Yellow brass C85700 offers tensile strength of 270–310 MPa, adequate for decorative hardware, architectural fittings, and light engineering applications. Its bright golden-yellow colour responds well to polishing, plating, and lacquering for high-quality surface finishes.
