IS 318 HTB1 (High Tensile Brass Grade 1) is the primary Indian standard high tensile brass (manganese bronze) casting grade, directly equivalent to C86500 (USA), CC765S (EN 1982), and internationally recognised as Manganese Bronze. With tensile strength of 490 MPa – more than twice that of standard yellow brass – IS 318 HTB1 is the specification for marine propellers, pump impellers, worm wheels, slide bearings, and structural marine hardware produced at Indian foundries for domestic naval, offshore, and industrial customers, and for export to global marine equipment markets.

IS 318 HTB1 specifies Cu 55–60%, Zn balance, Mn 0.5–3.0%, Al 0.5–2.0%, Fe 0.4–2.0%, mirroring the international C86500/CC765S specification. The combination of alpha-beta duplex Cu-Zn structure with multi-element solid-solution hardening delivers 490 MPa tensile strength. IS 318 HTB1 is covered by the IS 318 standard and supported by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
