Brass Round Pins / Solid Pins
Brass Round Pins and Solid Pins – General-Purpose Machined Brass Pins for Electrical and Mechanical Use
Brass round pins and solid brass pins are versatile precision-machined cylindrical components used across a broad spectrum of electrical, mechanical, and electronic applications. They serve as electrical contact pins, hinge pins, pivot pins, roll pins, coil winding pins, bobbin terminals, shear pins, and gauge pins in switchgear, relays, meters, transformers, motors, and general electrical equipment. Manufactured from CW614N free-cutting brass and related alloys at Electrical Accessories India’s Jamnagar facility, these pins are available in diameters from 0.5 mm to 50 mm and lengths from 2 mm to 300 mm. Price: US$ 11.50/kg
Product Overview
Electrical Contact Solid Pins
Brass solid round pins used as electrical contacts provide reliable current-carrying connections in relay contacts, switch contacts, connector contacts, and meter terminals. Their electrical conductivity of 26–28% IACS and low contact resistance make them suitable for low-voltage switching at up to 600V and currents from milliamperes to hundreds of amperes depending on cross-section. Solid pin contacts are machined to close diameter tolerances (±0.01 mm) for consistent mating with socket contacts in multi-pin connectors, industrial plugs, and panel-mount connectors.
Mechanical Pivot and Hinge Pins
Brass hinge pins and pivot pins are used in switchgear enclosure hinges, relay pivot mechanisms, meter movement pivots, circuit breaker operating mechanisms, and panel door hinges. Brass pivot pins offer excellent wear resistance in rotating and oscillating applications due to the self-lubricating nature of brass alloys and their resistance to galling. Hinge pin diameters range from 2 mm (miniature relay pivots) to 20 mm (panel door hinges). Related Brass Panel Board Hinges and related hinge hardware are available from Electrical Accessories India.
Bobbin Terminal Pins and Coil Former Pins
Solid brass pins are press-fit into transformer bobbin (coil former) terminals, inductor cores, and choke winding forms to provide solderable connection points for winding wires. Bobbin terminal pin diameters of 0.8 mm, 1.0 mm, and 1.3 mm are standard for PCB-mount transformers and inductors. Pin length above bobbin surface typically 3–8 mm. Tin plating or bare brass finish for good solderability with magnet wire and stranded copper conductors. Bobbin pins must withstand wave soldering at 260°C for 10 seconds per IEC 60068-2-20.
Gauge Pins and Inspection Pins
Precision brass gauge pins (pin gauges) are used in quality inspection, tooling setup, and fixture verification to check hole diameters and slot dimensions. Brass gauge pins are manufactured to ANSI/ASME B89.1.5 Class ZZ tolerances with diameters from 0.5 mm to 25 mm, accurate to ±0.001 mm. Non-magnetic brass material prevents gauge pin distortion near magnetic fixtures and electromagnetic testing equipment.
Connector Body and Insert Pins
Solid round brass pins are used as insert pins in plastic connector housings, providing rigid contact posts for wire wrapping (solder-free wire wrap termination), spade-lug connection, or direct solder termination. Square-section solid pins (0.64 mm × 0.64 mm) are used in PCB header connectors at 2.54 mm pitch. Larger round solid pins (2–5 mm diameter) form the contact posts of industrial power connectors, earthing connectors, and high-current terminal blocks.

Cold-Drawn vs. CNC-Turned Solid Pins
Cold-drawn brass pins offer superior mechanical strength and surface finish for mass-production quantities at lower cost. CNC-turned solid pins provide tighter tolerances (±0.01 mm vs. ±0.05 mm for drawn) and custom profiles not achievable by drawing. Selection depends on volume, tolerance requirement, and end-profile complexity.
Knurled Head Solid Pins
Solid brass pins with knurled heads provide manual grip for thumb-screw and hand-turn applications in test fixtures, laboratory equipment, and calibration instruments. Diamond, straight, and spiral knurling patterns are available in all standard knurling pitches per ISO 1143.
Stepped and Shoulder Solid Pins
Stepped solid pins with two or more diameters along their length serve as shoulder locating pins, press-fit dowels with integral stop shoulder, and tiered contact pins for connector applications. Shoulder diameter tolerances held to ±0.01 mm.
Long Solid Pins and Stud Pins
Solid brass stud pins from 50 mm to 300 mm length serve as terminal studs in transformer winding forms, busbar stud connections, panel mounting posts, and electrical apparatus terminal posts. Thread-end stud pins with hex or round body accept nuts and washers for cable lug terminations.
High-Conductivity Copper Round Pins
For applications requiring conductivity above 90% IACS, electrolytic copper (C10100) or oxygen-free copper (C10200) round pins are available as alternatives to brass, providing maximum current-carrying capacity per unit cross-section. Copper solid pins are used in high-current bus connections, transformer tap changers, and energy meter current paths.

Manufacturing Process
Brass round and solid pins are manufactured using three primary processes depending on diameter and tolerance requirements. Small-diameter pins (0.5–10 mm) are produced on high-speed Swiss-type CNC turning centers with bar feeders for continuous production. Medium-diameter pins (10–25 mm) are turned on CNC lathes with automatic part handling. Large-diameter pins (25–50 mm) are machined on conventional CNC turning centers with tailstock support. Pins requiring tight diameter tolerances (±0.003 mm) are centerless ground after turning. End profiles (chamfers, radii, flat faces, points) are machined in the same operation as body turning. Plating is performed in-house per customer specification. 100% dimensional sampling inspection is standard; 100% full inspection available for high-tolerance items.
