IS 318 LTB1 Brass Casting – Leaded Tin Brass Grade 1
IS 318 LTB1 (Indian Standard 318, Leaded Tin Brass Grade 1) is the Indian standard designation for red brass / gunmetal casting alloy, directly equivalent to LG2 (UK), C83600 (USA), and CC491K (EN 1982). With the four-component composition Cu 83–86%, Sn 4–6%, Pb 4–6%, Zn 4–6%, IS 318 LTB1 is the workhorse grade for all plumbing, water service, marine, and general engineering casting applications in the Indian market. Alloy Overview
IS 318 LTB1 specifies the same four-component gunmetal composition as the international LG2 grade: the tin content (4–6%) provides corrosion resistance and pressure tightness, the lead content (4–6%) provides excellent machinability, and the zinc content (4–6%) adds castability and minor strength. The alloy’s high copper content (83–86%) ensures dezincification immunity and WRAS-level corrosion resistance in water service.

Applications
IS 318 LTB1 castings: potable water valves (ball, gate, check), plumbing compression fittings, water meter bodies, manifold blocks; pump casings and impellers; marine through-hull fittings; electrical cable gland bodies, terminal housings, conduit fittings; steam fittings; and general pressure castings for Indian domestic and export markets.
