CC768S Naval Brass Casting – CuZn38Sn1

CC768S Naval Brass Casting – CuZn38Sn1

CC768S (EN 1982 / CuZn38Sn1-C) is the European standard designation for Naval Brass casting, directly equivalent to US C46400. The tin addition (0.5–1.0%) inhibits dezincification in seawater and aggressive water service. CC768S provides tensile strength of 380 MPa – substantially higher than red brass or standard yellow brass – combined with good corrosion resistance in both seawater and fresh water. It is the preferred EN 1982 grade for marine deck hardware, through-hull fittings, sea cocks, and marine plumbing castings in European and global markets.

Alloy Overview

CC768S naval brass castings combine the strength of a higher-zinc alloy (Cu 59–62%, Zn ~38%) with tin-inhibited dezincification resistance. The tin addition stabilises the alpha phase at grain boundaries and retards zinc dissolution in seawater service, providing dezincification resistance superior to uninhibited yellow brass while being simpler and less expensive than fully DZR arsenic-inhibited grades. ISO 6509 dezincification test results for CC768S typically show plug depths of 100–180 µm (threshold 200 µm).
