CC766S High Tensile Brass Casting – CuZn37Mn3Al2Fe1
CC766S High Tensile Brass Casting – CuZn37Mn3Al2Fe1
CC766S (EN 1982 / CuZn37Mn3Al2Fe1-C) is the European standard for the highest-strength commercial brass casting alloy, directly equivalent to US C86300. Tensile strength of 620–690 MPa is achieved through very high manganese (2.5–5.0%), aluminium (0.5–1.5%), and iron (2.0–4.0%) additions in an alpha-beta CuZn matrix. CC766S is specified for the most demanding structural and marine applications: large propellers, heavy worm wheels, high-load bearings, and offshore structural hardware.
Alloy Overview
CC766S’s extremely high strength (620 MPa sand, 690 MPa die) is due to the high multi-element alloying creating extensive beta phase precipitation hardening. At 130–160 HB hardness, CC766S requires carbide tooling for all machining operations. Despite the high strength, elongation of 14% provides adequate toughness for shock-loaded marine applications. Microstructure is predominantly beta phase with alpha phase inclusions.
