C83600 (UNS C83600, CDA 836, LG2 Gunmetal, EN CC491K / CuSn5Pb5Zn5, IS 318 LTB1) is the classic leaded red brass / gunmetal casting alloy: the workhorse of water utility, plumbing, marine, and general engineering foundries worldwide. With approximately 85% copper, 5% tin, 5% lead, and 5% zinc, C83600 / LG2 delivers the best corrosion resistance of all common brass casting grades, excellent pressure tightness, and reliable service life in fresh water, mild seawater, and industrial atmospheres.
Alloy Overview
The high copper content (83–86%) of C83600 / LG2 provides excellent corrosion resistance and dezincification immunity. The 5% tin stabilises the alloy against copper oxide formation and improves pressure tightness. The 5% lead imparts excellent machinability. Tensile strength is 240–270 MPa with elongation of 20%. WRAS-compatible for potable water service.

Applications
C83600 / LG2 castings are used in: potable water valves and fittings (ball valves, gate valves, check valves, strainers, pressure reducers, water meters); plumbing compression fittings and manifold blocks; pump casings and impellers for water service; marine through-hull fittings, sea cocks, and deck hardware; steam and condensate fittings; electrical cable gland bodies, terminal housings, and conduit fittings in humid and corrosive environments; and general engineering pressure castings requiring WRAS / NSF compliance.
