C89833 Lead Free Brass Casting

C89833 Lead Free Brass Casting

C89833 lead free brass casting is a tin-silicon bronze alloy (Cu-Sn-Si) produced without lead additions, offering the best pressure tightness and corrosion resistance among lead-free brass casting alloys, and representing the closest lead-free technical equivalent to C83600 (85-5-5-5 bronze / LG2 gunmetal) for valve body and pressure fitting castings. C89833 is fully compliant with NSF/ANSI 372 (weighted average Pb <0.25%), US SDWA 2014, RoHS 2011/65/EU, and EU Drinking Water Directive 2020/2184/EU. Electrical Accessories India manufactures C89833 sand castings, investment castings, and CNC-machined lead-free bronze components from Jamnagar, India, for potable water utilities, plumbing hardware manufacturers, and electrical OEMs worldwide.

C89833 Alloy Composition and Technical Properties

C89833 uses tin (4–6%) and silicon (0.5–1.5%) as strengthening and chip-breaking additions to the copper-zinc matrix, without lead. Tin improves corrosion resistance and pressure tightness (critical for valve and fitting pressure ratings), while silicon promotes machinability by hardening the matrix and assisting chip break during CNC turning and milling. The alloy achieves 60–70% machinability relative to C36000, 290–310 MPa tensile strength, and 12–18% elongation — mechanical properties closely matching C83600 leaded bronze.

Applications of C89833 Lead-Free Bronze Castings

C89833 lead-free bronze sand castings are specified as the primary lead-free substitute for C83600 (LG2 gunmetal) in pressure-rated valve bodies and fittings: gate valves, globe valves, ball valves, and check valves per AWWA C800 and BS EN 1074; water meter bodies and flow meter housings; pressure regulating valve bodies for water mains (PN16, PN25); lead-free compression fitting bodies for copper and stainless steel pipe (EN 1254-2); WRAS-approved plumbing fittings in UK installations; KTW-approved water works fittings in Germany; and pump impellers and pump casings for potable water service. The alloy’s pressure tightness characteristics (low micro-porosity after directional solidification) make it particularly suitable for high-pressure water service without vacuum impregnation.
