C89520 lead free brass casting is a bismuth-selenium (Bi-Se) brass alloy that achieves the highest machinability of any lead-free casting alloy at 80–85% relative to C36000, while maintaining lead content below 0.05% — fully compliant with NSF/ANSI 372, US SDWA 2014, RoHS 2011/65/EU, and EU Drinking Water Directive 2020/2184/EU. Also known as BiLead™ brass, C89520 is the closest available substitute to C83600 leaded bronze for precision-machined castings including valve seats, meter bodies, instrument housings, cable gland bodies, and high-volume turned components. C89520 Alloy Composition and Technical Properties

C89520 uses bismuth (1.0–2.5%) and selenium (0.05–0.15%) additions to replicate lead’s chip-breaking function during machining operations, producing short, brittle chips that prevent tool-wrap and surface finish degradation. Bismuth also partially fills interdendritic spaces during solidification, improving pressure tightness compared to silicon brass lead-free grades. The alloy achieves 80–85% machinability, 276–310 MPa tensile strength, and corrosion resistance equivalent to C83600 in most aqueous service environments.
