C28000 Brass Forgings | Muntz Metal 60/40 | UNS C28000

C28000 (UNS C28000), known as Muntz Metal or 60-40 Brass, is a hot-working alloy with 60% copper and 40% zinc that provides the highest zinc content of any commercially forged brass. The high zinc content gives C28000 a fully beta-phase structure at elevated temperatures, enabling exceptional plasticity for forging large, simple shapes at lower cost than alpha-beta brasses. C28000 is used where maximum cost-efficiency is required for large brass forgings: condenser tube plates, architectural sheathing components, ship hull cladding plates, and large-bore fittings where dezincification risk is acceptable. Because C28000 is susceptible to dezincification in aggressive water, it is NOT suitable for potable water service — specify CW602N/C35330 DZR brass for water fittings. C28000 is specified per ASTM B124 and BS EN 12167 (nearest: CW507L).

Applications of C28000 Muntz Metal Forgings

C28000 is used for cost-effective large forgings where dezincification resistance is not required: condenser tube sheet blanks for power station and industrial condensers (fresh water service); architectural sheet and structural forgings; heat exchanger end plates; ship hull plate cladding frames; large-bore piping flanges; structural hardware; bolt blanks and heavy fastener forgings; and building architectural trim components. C28000 offers the lowest material cost of any forging brass due to its high zinc content.

  • Condenser tube sheets (fresh water/demineralized water service)
  • Architectural structural hardware and cladding components
  • Heat exchanger end caps and headers (non-seawater service)
  • Large-bore piping flanges and structural fittings (industrial, non-potable)
  • Heavy fastener blanks (bolts, nuts, anchor bolts) for structural applications
  • Marine applications in low-corrosion environments (non-seawater, non-dezincifying)

Pricing

Indicative Price: US$ 13.30 per kilogram (CIF). C28000 offers cost advantage over C37700 due to lower copper content. Contact us for large-quantity quotation.
