CW617N Brass Forgings | CuZn40Pb2 Hot Forging Brass

CW617N Brass Forgings | CuZn40Pb2 Hot Forging Brass

CW617N brass forgings — also designated CuZn40Pb2, IS 319 Grade 2, DIN CuZn40Pb2, and ASTM B124 C37700 equivalent — represent the principal European EN alloy specifically engineered for hot closed-die forging. With its dual alpha-beta phase microstructure at elevated temperatures, CW617N achieves outstanding plastic flow within forging dies, producing complex near-net-shape geometries including valve bodies, gas fitting bodies, plumbing components, pneumatic fittings, and electrical enclosures. Electrical Accessories India, Jamnagar, manufactures CW617N brass forgings from 50 g to 5 kg with full CNC finish machining and exports to 30+ countries.

Applications of CW617N Brass Forgings

CW617N is the dominant alloy for hot-forged brass components across multiple industrial sectors. In plumbing and HVAC, CW617N forgings form ball valve bodies (1/4″ to 4″ BSP/NPT), gate valve bodies, compression tee and elbow bodies, push-fit coupling bodies, and manifold blocks to BS EN 1254, BS EN 331, and PN10/PN16/PN25 ratings. In the gas distribution sector, CW617N forgings are used for manually operated gas valve bodies per BS EN 331, LPG regulator bodies, and gas meter component bodies per IS 8737. For pneumatic and hydraulic applications, CW617N forged bodies serve as compressed air valve bodies, hydraulic manifold blocks, and pressure fitting bodies for operating pressures up to 40 bar. In the electrical industry, CW617N forgings are used for large-bore cable gland bodies (M63 and above), conduit fitting bodies, and junction box enclosures where forged strength is required over cast alternatives.

  • Valve bodies: ball valves, gate valves, globe valves, check valves (PN10–PN25, DN8–DN100)
  • Plumbing fittings: compression elbows, tees, crosses, unions, adapters (EN 1254-2)
  • Gas components: manually operated gas valves (BS EN 331), regulator bodies (IS 8737)
  • Pneumatic fittings: compressed air valve bodies, push-in fittings, manifold blocks
  • Electrical: cable gland bodies (M63+), conduit adaptors, junction box flanges
  • Hydraulic: manifold blocks, pressure fitting bodies, hydraulic valve bodies

Key Forging Parameters for CW617N

CW617N is heated by induction to 680–720°C (optimal forging window) with temperature uniformity of ±15°C across the billet. Press capacity ranges from 400T to 2000T depending on part geometry. Closed-die forgings are produced in 2–3 stages (preform, finish, trim). Flash is trimmed on a dedicated trim press. Shot blasting removes scale and provides a uniform surface. CNC finish machining achieves ±0.01–0.05 mm on functional surfaces including threads (BSP/NPT/metric), port bores, and seating faces.

Quality Standards for CW617N Forgings

All CW617N brass forgings are produced and tested to: BS EN 12167 (wrought copper alloys – rods and bars); ASTM B124 (C37700 forging rod); IS 319 Grade 2 (hot-stamping brass); EN 10204 Type 3.1 material test certificates; EN 1092 (PN10/16/25 flanges); BS EN 331 for gas valve applications; EN 12266-1 / API 598 for valve pressure testing; and ISO 9001:2015 quality management. WRAS and DVGW approvals are NOT available for standard CW617N – specify DZR CW602N for potable water approval.
