Electrical Accessories India manufactures and exports aluminum neutral bars and aluminum terminal bars for distribution boards (DBs), motor control centres (MCCs), LT switchgear panels, sub-distribution boards, and consumer unit assemblies. Manufactured at our Jamnagar, Gujarat facility from high-conductivity aluminium alloys (1350, 6101, and 6063 series), these neutral link bars and terminal assemblies are engineered for reliable current distribution at neutral and earth connections in single-phase, three-phase, and multi-circuit panel installations. We supply electrical OEMs, DB manufacturers, panel builders, EPC contractors, and distributors across India and in 30+ export markets.
Product Overview
Function and Role in Electrical Panels
The neutral bar (also called neutral link bar, neutral terminal bar, neutral bus bar, or N-bar) is a conductive busbar assembly installed in distribution boards and consumer units to provide a common connection point for all neutral conductors returning from individual circuit breakers (MCBs, RCBOs, MCCBs). It distributes the neutral current from the incoming supply (single-phase or three-phase) to individual circuit neutrals and serves as the bonding point between neutral and earth in a TN-S or TN-C-S earthing system. Aluminum terminal bars serve the same function for earth (PE) connections and for multi-circuit current distribution in LT panels. A correctly rated and connected neutral bar ensures balanced current distribution, minimizes voltage drop on the neutral conductor, and provides a safe, reliable bonding point per IEC 60364 electrical installation standards.
Material – High-Conductivity Aluminium Alloys
Our aluminum neutral bars are manufactured from EC-grade aluminium alloy 1350 (electrical conductor grade) with minimum conductivity of 61% IACS (International Annealed Copper Standard), making it the standard material for aluminium bus conductors in power distribution. Structural terminal bars requiring higher mechanical strength are manufactured from alloy 6101-T6 or 6063-T5 (conductivity 55–58% IACS) which offer superior yield strength (170–215 MPa) compared to 1350 (75 MPa), reducing deflection under short-circuit forces. All bars are supplied with bare (degreased and passivated), tin-plated, or silver-plated contact surfaces. Tin plating (5–15 µm) prevents aluminium oxide formation at contact points and reduces contact resistance, especially critical at cable lug and screw-clamp connections.
Neutral Bar Assembly Design
Aluminum neutral bars are supplied as complete assemblies comprising: the aluminium conductor bar with punched or drilled screw holes at defined pitch, insulating base rail in PA6.6 (polyamide 66) or PA6.6-GF30 (glass-fibre reinforced) rated for 600V, mounting lugs or DIN rail clip for installation in the distribution board frame, screw-clamp terminals (M4, M5, M6 brass screws with hex heads or combination heads), and identification label slots. Pole counts range from 2-way to 24-way (dual or quad row configurations for higher pole counts). Standard current ratings are 63A, 100A, 125A, 160A, 200A, 250A, and 315A depending on bar cross-section and contact area. Current rating is certified per IEC 61439-1 temperature rise test methodology.
Dimensional Standards and Configurations
Standard neutral bar dimensions follow distribution board grid dimensions. Bar cross-sections range from 15 mm × 4 mm (63A) to 60 mm × 10 mm (315A). Hole pitches of 10 mm, 12 mm, 15 mm, and 17.5 mm accommodate standard terminal pitch of major DB manufacturers including Legrand, Schneider Electric, Hager, ABB, and Eaton. DIN rail mounting (35 mm DIN rail, EN 60715) is standard. Panel-mount versions with M4 or M5 mounting studs are available for direct enclosure mounting. Custom bar lengths, hole patterns, and current ratings are produced to OEM specifications. Maximum continuous bar lengths available: 2000 mm (cut-to-length on order).
Aluminium vs Copper Neutral Bars – Technical Comparison
Aluminium neutral bars are specified where weight reduction, cost optimization, and conductivity are priorities. Aluminium is approximately 1/3 the weight of copper for the same cross-section and costs 40–60% less per kilogram. For equivalent current carrying capacity, an aluminium bar requires approximately 1.6× the cross-sectional area of copper (due to lower conductivity: aluminium 61% IACS vs copper 100% IACS). However, the lower density of aluminium means the equivalent-rated aluminium bar is still lighter than copper. Aluminium neutral bars are standard in residential and commercial distribution boards with current ratings up to 250A. For high-current (400A+) or space-constrained installations, copper terminal bars (offered separately) are preferred due to their superior current density.
Corrosion Protection and Surface Finish
Bare aluminium naturally forms a thin oxide layer (Al2O3) that can increase contact resistance at screw-terminal connections over time. Our neutral bars are supplied with contact joint compound (oxide inhibitor paste) application at screw terminals, or with tin plating (5–15 µm electroplated tin per IEC 60068-2-52) which prevents oxide reformation and maintains low contact resistance throughout the service life. Tin-plated bars are recommended for all installations where cable connections will be made with copper conductors or copper cable lugs, preventing galvanic corrosion at the aluminium-copper interface. Silver-plated bars (2–5 µm silver) are available for high-reliability applications in switchgear and substation panels.

Aluminium neutral bars are standard components in DBs manufactured per IEC 61439-3 (distribution boards for household and similar use) and BS EN 61439-3 (consumer units). They accommodate incoming cable sizes from 2.5 mm² to 185 mm² copper or 4 mm² to 240 mm² aluminium depending on terminal model.
Industrial Panel Applications
In industrial settings, aluminium terminal bars serve as multi-circuit current distribution bars in motor control panels, power distribution units (PDUs), automatic transfer switch (ATS) assemblies, main LT switchboards, capacitor bank panels, and generator distribution panels. They function as phase, neutral, and earth common bus points in multi-feeder LT switchgear conforming to IEC 61439-1 and IEC 61439-2.
Earthing and PE Terminal Applications
A separately insulated (green/yellow) or bare aluminium bar is used as the protective earth (PE) terminal bar, equipment earth bar, combined PEN terminal (TN-C systems), or supplementary bonding bar in distribution boards and LT switchgear. Earth terminal bars must be bonded to the enclosure (at minimum one direct metal-to-metal contact point per IEC 60364-5-54) and are rated for fault current withstand per the system prospective short circuit current (PSCC) rating.

Manufacturing Process
Aluminium neutral bars and terminal bars are manufactured at our Jamnagar facility by hot extrusion, precision sawing, CNC drilling/punching, surface treatment, and assembly. Aluminium alloy billets (1350, 6101, or 6063) are hot-extruded through precision dies to produce bar profiles with cross-sections accurate to ±0.2 mm. Extruded bars are solution heat-treated and artificially aged (T6 or T5 temper) to achieve specified mechanical properties. CNC multi-spindle drilling lines then machine screw holes, slots, and mounting features to positional accuracy of ±0.1 mm. Bars requiring tin plating are chemically cleaned, zinc-immersion (zincate) treated, and electroplated with bright tin (5–15 µm) from a methane sulphonate bath. Insulating base rails (PA6.6-GF30) are injection-moulded in-house and assembed with the conductor bar, stainless steel mounting clip, and brass terminal screws. Completed assemblies undergo current rating validation per IEC 61439-1 temperature rise test protocol before shipment.

Frequently Asked Questions
What aluminium alloy is used for neutral bars?
Standard neutral bars use EC-grade aluminium 1350 (61% IACS minimum conductivity). Structural terminal bars requiring higher mechanical strength use 6101-T6 (57% IACS, 215 MPa yield strength) or 6063-T5 (53% IACS, 170 MPa).
Why is tin plating important for aluminium neutral bars?
Aluminium naturally forms an insulating oxide layer (Al2O3) that increases contact resistance at screw-terminal connections. Tin plating (5–15 µm) prevents oxide reformation and reduces contact resistance, especially critical at aluminium-copper interfaces to prevent galvanic corrosion.
What current ratings are available for aluminium neutral bars?
Standard current ratings are 63A, 100A, 125A, 160A, 200A, 250A, and 315A, determined by the bar cross-sectional area and screw terminal contact area per IEC 61439-1 temperature rise methodology. Higher ratings (400A, 630A) are available as custom orders.
What is the difference between a neutral bar and a terminal bar?
A neutral bar (N-bar) is specifically identified and used for neutral conductors in TN-S or TN-C-S systems, typically insulated from the enclosure. A terminal bar (or earth bar/PE bar) is used for protective earth connections, bonded directly to the enclosure metalwork. Both have the same conductor construction but differ in insulation and colour identification (blue for neutral, green/yellow for earth).
Can I connect copper cables directly to aluminium neutral bars?
Yes, but use of contact joint compound (oxide inhibitor paste) or tin-plated bars is essential to prevent galvanic corrosion at the copper-aluminium interface. Never make bare copper-to-bare-aluminium connections without oxide inhibitor treatment.
What pole counts are available?
Standard: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 24 way. Custom multi-row assemblies (dual row, triple row) are available for higher pole counts. Maximum standard single-row assembly is 24-way.
Are your neutral bars compatible with major DB brands?
Yes. Our neutral bars are dimensioned to be compatible with distribution board frames from Legrand, Schneider Electric, Hager, ABB, Eaton, Siemens, and Havells, with matching hole pitch (10, 12, 15, 17.5 mm) and DIN rail clip dimensions.
Do you supply assembled or unassembled neutral bars?
Both. We supply complete assemblies (aluminium bar + PA6.6 insulator + DIN rail clip + brass terminal screws) ready for installation, or conductor bars only (cut to length, pre-drilled) for OEMs who assemble their own insulator units.
