C48200 Brass Forgings | Medium Leaded Naval Brass | UNS C48200

C48200 Brass Forgings | Medium Leaded Naval Brass | UNS C48200

C48200 (UNS C48200) — Medium Leaded Naval Brass — is an enhanced version of C46400 Naval Brass with a higher lead content (0.40–1.00%) added to improve machinability while retaining the tin-modified marine corrosion resistance of the base naval brass composition. The balance between tin (for seawater corrosion resistance) and lead (for machinability) makes C48200 ideal for marine components that require both good resistance to seawater corrosion and extensive CNC machining of complex geometries after forging. C48200 is used in naval architecture, shipbuilding, offshore oil and gas, and desalination for components requiring marine-grade corrosion resistance with superior machined surface quality. Specified per ASTM B124 and ASTM B283.

Applications

C48200 is used for marine components that require more machining than plain C46400 allows efficiently: ship valve bodies (seacocks, sea valves, flood valves) requiring precision-machined internal geometries; marine pump bearing housings; propeller shaft seal glands; naval deck fittings; ship stern tube components; and offshore subsea valve components requiring marine corrosion resistance with high machined dimensional accuracy. The additional lead content reduces CNC machining cycle times by 20–30% versus unleaded C46400 while maintaining equivalent marine corrosion resistance.

  • Ship valve bodies with complex internal geometry (seacocks, flood valves)
  • Marine pump bearing housings and seal gland bodies
  • Propeller shaft: stern tube sleeves, shaft seal components
  • Offshore subsea valve bodies and actuator components
  • Naval deck hardware requiring precision machined surfaces
  • Desalination plant (MSF, MED) valve and fitting bodies
