C87900 Silicon Brass Casting
C87900 (UNS C87900, CDA 879) is a lead-free silicon brass casting alloy with moderate zinc (28–33%) and silicon (1.0–3.5%) additions, designed as a lead-free drop-in replacement for standard leaded yellow brass (C85700/C85400) in applications where lead content must be minimised for regulatory compliance. C87900 provides tensile strength of 370 MPa, good castability, attractive golden-yellow colour, and lead-free compliance for plumbing, architectural hardware, and general commercial castings.
Alloy Overview
C87900 with 63–68% copper and moderate Si addition provides dezincification resistance superior to unleaded yellow brass, while the silicon partially compensates for the loss of machinability that results from eliminating lead. The alloy is suitable for gravity die casting and investment casting of decorative and plumbing components where lead-free compliance (NSF 61, AB1953, RoHS) is required but the highest strength of C87200/C87600/C87800 is not needed.

C87900 castings are used for: lead-free plumbing fittings for municipal water supply; NSF/ANSI 61 compliant valve bodies and meter bodies; California Prop 65 and AB1953 compliant hardware; decorative architectural fittings in public buildings requiring lead-free specification; OEM components for food processing equipment; and direct replacement of C85700/C85400 leaded castings in lead-restricted applications.
