C87850 Lead Free Brass Casting

C87850 Lead Free Brass Casting

C87850 lead free brass casting is a silicon-manganese brass alloy (Cu–Si–Mn) produced without lead additions, fully compliant with NSF/ANSI 372 (weighted average lead <0.25%), US Safe Drinking Water Act 2014, RoHS 2011/65/EU, and EU Drinking Water Directive 2020/2184/EU. Electrical Accessories India manufactures C87850 sand castings, investment castings, and CNC-machined cast components for potable water valves, plumbing fittings, electrical hardware, and industrial applications, exported to 30+ countries with EN 10204 Type 3.1 material test certificates.

C87850 Alloy Composition and Properties

C87850 (UNS C87850) is a silicon brass casting alloy designated under ASTM B584 (Standard Specification for Copper Alloy Sand Castings for General Applications). Silicon (2.8–4.0%) and manganese (0.5–1.5%) replace lead as the machinability and chip-breaking agent, while maintaining the copper-zinc matrix strength and casting fluidity of conventional brass alloys. The alloy achieves a machinability rating of 70–80% relative to C36000 free-cutting brass (100% reference) — the highest machinability among silicon brass lead-free grades.

Applications of C87850 Lead-Free Brass Castings

C87850 lead-free sand castings and investment castings are specified for NSF/ANSI 372 potable water valve bodies (gate, globe, ball, check valves per AWWA C800), compression fitting bodies for copper and CPVC pipe (ASTM F1624), corporation stops and curb stops, water meter housings, plumbing manifold blocks, and HVAC control valve bodies. In electrical applications, C87850 machined castings are used for RoHS-compliant cable gland bodies, electrical enclosure fittings, conduit fittings, and terminal connector housings. The alloy’s inherent dezincification resistance (high silicon content suppresses dezincification) makes it suitable for aggressive water service without DZR-grade specification.
