Brass Earthing Terminals and Brass Earth Tags

Brass earthing terminals are precision-pressed brass components used to connect protective earth conductors to switchgear panels, distribution boards, electrical enclosures, equipment chassis, and grounding systems. Also known as brass earth terminals, brass grounding terminals, brass PE terminals, brass protective earth connectors, brass earthing lugs, brass bonding terminals, brass earth bars, brass grounding tabs, brass chassis earth points, and brass earth tags, these components are manufactured from CW614N (CuZn39Pb3) and CZ121 brass strip and sheet by Electrical Accessories India. Supplied to LV switchgear OEMs, panel builders, distribution board manufacturers, EPC contractors, and electrical installers worldwide.
Product Overview
Brass Earth Terminal Lugs and Grounding Connectors
Brass earth terminal lugs, brass grounding lugs, brass PE connectors, brass chassis earthing points, brass earth clamping brackets, and brass earthing sockets are used to create a reliable electrical connection between a conductor and the earthed metal frame of a panel or enclosure. They are manufactured from CW614N brass by blanking, punching, and bending. Standard configurations include flat tongue with M4–M10 mounting hole, right-angle brackets, T-form connectors, and threaded stud terminals for bolt-through connection. Conductors from 1.5 mm² to 150 mm² can be accommodated depending on terminal design and conductor clamping method (screw, bolt, or ferrule).
Brass Earth Bus Bars and Earth Bars
Brass earth bar sections, brass PE bus strips, brass grounding bars, brass neutral-earth (N-PE) links, brass equipotential bonding bars, and brass combined neutral and earth (CNE) terminals are longitudinal brass strips drilled with regularly spaced fixing holes to serve as the common earth point within a distribution board or panel. They are mounted on insulated standoffs or direct-fixed to the panel back plate. Standard earth bar widths: 12 mm, 15 mm, 20 mm; lengths from 100 mm to 500 mm; thickness 3–6 mm. Holes at 25 mm or 50 mm pitch for conductor entries. Tin-plated standard for long-term oxidation resistance.
Brass Panel Earth Points and Earthing Screws
Brass enclosure earth points, brass panel bonding screws, brass earthing inserts, brass M4–M10 earth studs, brass grounding receptacles, and brass captive earthing nuts are used at designated earth points on metal enclosures, switchgear panels, and instrument housings. These are pressed or machined from CW614N brass and fitted permanently to the enclosure during manufacturing (tapped holes, pressed-in studs, or welded nuts). The external earth terminal accessory (ring terminal, lug) is bolted to this point in the field. These comply with IEC 60529 and IEC 60529 enclosure standard requirements for accessible protective earth terminations.
Brass Neutral-Earth Link Bars and Disconnecting Links
Brass neutral-earth links, brass N-PE link bars, brass neutral-to-earth bridging links, brass main bonding conductors (MBC), brass disconnecting terminal links, brass neutral disconnector links, and brass solid neutral links are used in the distribution board main earth terminal assembly to connect the neutral (N) conductor to the protective earth (PE) at the main incoming point. In TN-S systems, the N-PE link is fitted at the main distribution board only, not downstream. In TN-C-S (PME) systems, the combined PEN conductor is separated at the cut-off point. These comply with IEC 60364-5-54, BS 7671 Chapter 54, and NEC Article 250.
Brass Earthing Tags for Cables and Conductors
Brass earth tags, brass cable earthing tags, brass conductor identification earth tags, brass tee-bar earth markers, and brass flat earth identification labels are fitted to cable lugs, busbar bolts, and earth conductor terminals to permanently identify protective earth connections. They carry the IEC earth symbol, text designation (PE, EARTH, GND), or circuit reference markings per IEC 60445 and IEC 60417 standards. Manufactured from 0.5–2.0 mm CW614N brass strip with M4–M8 attachment holes, slot, or tee-bar profile. Tin-plated standard; bare brass and nickel-plated available for specific environments.

Conductivity and Performance
CW614N brass achieves 26–28% IACS electrical conductivity. While this is lower than copper (100% IACS), for earthing terminal applications it is fully adequate — the earth conductor cross-section per IEC 60364-5-54 is already designed for fault current duration, and the terminal resistance contributes negligibly to total earth fault loop impedance. Where higher conductivity earthing terminals are required (high-fault-current applications, main earthing connections for HV/LV transformer neutrals), copper earth terminals are preferred. Brass is standard for LV distribution board and panel earthing terminals below 100A.
Tin Plating and Contact Quality
Tin plating (5–15 μm electroplated, per IEC 60068-2-20) is the standard surface finish for brass earthing terminals. Tin prevents oxidation of the brass surface, maintains low contact resistance at the bolted joint interface, and prevents the green patina formation that can increase contact resistance over time in unprotected brass. Tin-plated brass earthing terminals maintain a contact resistance below 100 μΩ at M6 bolt torque (4 Nm) for the service life of the panel installation. XRF plating thickness verification is performed on each production batch.
Dimensional Range and Compliance
Brass earthing terminals are manufactured to IEC 60998-2 (terminal blocks for copper conductors), DIN 46433 (copper-alloy accessories), and IEC 60364-5-54 (earthing arrangements) dimensional requirements. Earth bar hole spacing follows DIN 46433 and BS EN 13601 standard conductor entry spacings. Custom hole patterns, non-standard lengths, and special configurations are manufactured to customer drawing. CE marking documentation is provided for components incorporated into LV switchgear and distribution boards per the EU Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU.
Material Compatibility with Earthing Systems
Brass earthing terminals are compatible with copper conductors, copper cable lugs, copper busbars, and copper earth bars — all within the acceptable galvanic compatibility range per IEC 60364-5-54 for earthing installations. Brass-to-steel contact (enclosure chassis, steelwork) is acceptable indoors with appropriate surface treatment. For outdoor or marine environments, tin-plated or nickel-plated brass terminals, or alternatively copper earth terminals, are specified to avoid galvanic attack at the brass-steel interface in the presence of moisture and electrolyte.
Custom Configurations and OEM Supply
Brass earthing terminals are manufactured in any configuration from customer DXF, DWG, or PDF drawings. Common configurations: flat lugs, right-angle brackets, Z-form connectors, earth bar sections, chassis studs, pressed-in inserts, and threaded connectors. Earth terminal kits for specific panel designs — including earth bars, lug connectors, bolts, and identification tags — are assembled and packed for OEM panel assembly lines. Low-volume prototype runs are supported for new panel designs.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is the difference between a brass earthing terminal and a copper earthing terminal?
Brass earthing terminals (CW614N, ~26–28% IACS) are suitable for LV distribution board and panel earthing where fault current duration and magnitude are within the standard LV protective conductor sizing per IEC 60364-5-54. Copper earthing terminals (Cu-ETP, ~100% IACS) are preferred for high-fault-current applications (transformer neutrals, main earthing connections for substations) where the terminal itself must carry a significant portion of the fault current.
Are brass earth terminals suitable for use with aluminium conductors?
Brass earth terminals can be used with aluminium conductors with appropriate measures to prevent bimetallic corrosion at the interface: bi-metallic washers, joint compound, or dedicated aluminium-to-brass transition lugs are recommended. For direct brass-to-aluminium contact, tin-plated brass is preferred, with joint compound for outdoor use.
What is the current rating of brass earth terminals?
Brass earth terminals do not have a standalone current rating — their current-carrying capacity is determined by the protective conductor cross-section (the conductor, not the terminal) per IEC 60364-5-54 Table 54.3. The terminal must have adequate cross-section and bolt area for the specified conductor size. Our standard earth bars in 3–6 mm × 12–20 mm brass accommodate conductors up to 120 mm².
Are brass earth terminals compliant with IEC 60364?
Yes. Our brass earth terminals comply with IEC 60364-5-54 material requirements (copper alloy with ≥20% IACS conductivity), IEC 60998 terminal dimensions, and DIN 46433 accessory standards.
What tin plating thickness is specified for earth terminals?
5–15 μm electroplated tin per IEC 60068-2-20 is our standard for brass earth terminals. This is adequate for indoor switchgear service life. For outdoor or marine applications, 15–25 μm tin or silver plating is specified.
Can you supply brass earth bars pre-drilled for multiple conductor entries?
Yes. Earth bars are supplied with M6 or M8 holes at 25 mm or 50 mm pitch along their length, plus oversized mounting holes for chassis fixing. Custom hole patterns are drilled to drawing with 3–4 week lead time for new configurations.
What is the minimum order quantity?
Standard earth lugs and earth bar sections: 200 pieces. Custom earth terminal profiles: 500 pieces. Earth terminal kits: assembled and packed per panel BOM on request — contact us for MOQ.
Are brass earth terminals RoHS compliant?
CW614N brass contains lead (<3.5%), which is exempt from RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU under Annex III exemption 6(c) (lead in copper alloys used in electrical connectors). This exemption is currently valid. REACH SVHC declaration and RoHS compliance certificate with the applicable exemption noted are provided with each shipment.
